How to Wear Your Active Steps Pedometer
Place the pedometer on the waistband of your clothing. Position
it close to the midline of your thigh (lined up with knee) in an
upright position (the word Active should be parallel with the ground).
It should fit snug to your body and not hang loose.
Note: If your pedometer is not recording steps accurately, try
to relocate your pedometer in various positions on your body (i.e.
move to left or right on your clothing).
Caring for your Active Steps Pedometer
- Avoid dropping or crushing, this could break the crystal.
- Avoid Excessive moisture, the Active Steps Pedometer is not
waterproof.
- Avoid forcing the pedometer clip onto belt or pant waist, this
could cause the clip to break.
- Battery should be changed when the digital display become faded
or blank. Insert a coin into the dime sized slot on the side and
turn to open the front face to reveal the battery.
When and How to Replace the Battery
When the display begins to dim a new battery should be installed.
Replace the battery with an LR-44 type photo/electronic battery. They
can be found in a discount, office supply, or watch/camera store.
To replace the battery, place a coin in the slot on the bottom of
the step counter. Slowly turn the coin and snap-open and gently lift
the cover. Replace the dead battery with a new one making sure that
the positive (+) sign faces you. When replacing the cover make sure
that it is properly aligned and then snap it shut. Check to see that
the cover is secure. Now you'll need to perform a self-test. It's
easy to do. Just hold down all of the buttons for about 5 seconds.
Then, when the display goes blank remove your fingers from the buttons.
Your display will show 88888 then 0.
Helpful Notes on Measurement
The pedometer that you have contains a precision mechanism, and
when tested by exercise physiologists in controlled conditions,
it counted steps to within 1% of the actual number of steps taken.
The mechanism contains a suspended lever arm that is much like the
pendulum of a clock, so for your pedometer to count steps accurately
it must be positioned in a vertical plane, it must be level--not
tilted one way or the other--, and it must be held firmly in place.
If you feel that your pedometer is not counting steps properly,
run a test. Put your pedometer on and press the RESET button so
that the display starts at 000. Then walk 20 steps and check the
number on the display. If the number is off by more than one or
two steps, change the placement of your pedometer, and try the test
again. The best placement for your pedometer will depend on your
particular body type.
Please note that your pedometer will detect and record some movements
that aren't really steps, such as getting up from one's chair, shifting
one's weight, etc., but the relative importance of this error to
total daily values is likely to be insignificant.
