About the NC Physical Education Is ACTIVE Website

Thanks for your interest in North Carolina Physical Education Is ACTIVE! We hope you'll find our CD-ROM and/or Website useful.

Purpose of the North Carolina Physical Education Is ACTIVE! materials

We developed these materials for physical educators, health educators, classroom teachers, administrators, after-school programmers, higher-education teachers, and recreation and parks program specialists.

These materials will bring together public schools and after-school programs to implement national standards for promoting physical education and to get kids active. The materials can be used by school personnel to enhance the Standard Course of Study. Others can use the CD-ROM to have easy access to the resource areas that teachers use.

Working together, we can make a difference in the activity levels of youth. These materials will help everyone to access state and national information that will guide physical education in North Carolina and links to resources everyone can use.

We gratefully acknowledge the contributions of the following Sponsors:

  • Be Active North Carolina, Inc.
  • North Carolina Department of Public Instruction
  • North Carolina Alliance for Athletics, Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (NCAAHPHERD)

Organization of the Website

The Website is set up like a book. It has chapters to read, explore and link to for vital information regarding physical activity for kids. This can be used in computer skills classes, as a resource for administrators to easily locate important information regarding teachers, class sizes, laws and even opportunities to explore a variety of scheduling research.

The Website can be used to train after school care givers to supplement the physical education program. It also can be used for training purposes for higher education teacher preparation programs. The Website was designed to allow you to interact with the Internet so that you can be kept up to date with a variety of news, applications, and updated information as it becomes necessary.

One of the things we'll be able to do with the information you provide us is to keep your information in our database and notify you when updated information becomes available.

When properly implemented, the Healthful Living Education Program promotes behaviors that contribute to a healthful lifestyle and improved quality of life for all students. The Healthful Living Education portions of the North Carolina Standard Course of Study support and reinforce the goals and objectives of its two major components - health education and physical education. When these concepts are enhanced significantly, fit and healthy students who are present and alert in school will have a head start on academic performance.

This Website was developed to strengthen the effect of the Standard Course of Study. It contains information for physical education teachers, health education teachers, classroom teachers, administrators, teacher preparation programs, community organizations and a variety of recreation and parks organizations. The Website contains a wide variety of documents, Internet hyperlink resources, and PowerPoint presentations.

A special thanks to all of our sponsors. Please visit our sponsors - just visit our Website and click on the sponsors' links! We are very grateful and thankful, as they are extremely interested in healthy, active children!
