About Be Active Youth
Be Active North Carolina envisions a future where physical activity and lesson plans work together and today’s students become tomorrow’s standard of healthy living for future generations.
Be Active Youth provides evidence-based programming to K-8 students in the classroom, physical education and the community. Its research and pilot studies have launched several of Be Active North Carolina's signature programs, including Be Active Steps Youth.
Through a grant from the Health and Wellness Trust Fund of North Carolina and in partnership with the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction, Be Active Youth has developed a statewide train-the-trainer model for the Healthy Active Children Policy. The policy requires a minimum of 30 minutes of moderate to vigorous physical activity in the classroom per day for all K-8 students. The program has reached over 38,000 teachers in 800 schools, impacting nearly a million children across the state. Outside the classroom, Be Active Youth is an advocate for change and works within the physical activity community to bring about positive policy change that will equip schools with the resources needed to combat childhood obesity.
