Be Active North Carolina's Wellness Policy

A. BANC will strive to locate its office in an environment that will provide opportunities for routine physical activity and healthy lifestyles.

B. BANC will provide healthy food options for BANC funded meetings and celebrations.

C. BANC provides support that encourages routine physical activity, including:

  • Subsidizing gym membership.
  • Providing time for physical activity; offering up to 30 minutes per day Monday through Friday of paid work time for physical activity (during work hours in 30 minute increments).  The allowed time for working out is between the hours of 7am and 6pm, the employee must send an email to BANC Worksite Wellness Committee to inform them of one’s intent to take a period of activity.  An occasional confirmation will be made for accountability.
  • Providing access to space within the office for physical activity such as: space for interactive gaming system, yoga mats and or an exercise bike.
  • Encouraging walking meetings when practical.
  • Other opportunities may be made available from time to time at the discretion of the President / CEO.
D. BANC commits to a “no dumping” policy in which the staff  avoids bringing candy, cookies, cakes and other foods and beverages of limited nutritional value into the office for group consumption in public places.

E. BANC does not offer food of low nutritional value or physical activity as a gift, prize reward or penalty (e.g., while food may be provided at meetings, we do not use it as an enticement for attendance; we do not routinely cancel or delay planned breaks for physical activity due to work-related interruptions).

F.   BANC will inform employees of health insurance benefits related to physical activity, nutrition and healthy lifestyles.

BANC Health & Wellness Day

Be Active North Carolina's Wellness Committee organized an afternoon of fitness testing and nutritional counseling for the staff.

With the help of Annie Luxmore, the staff were tested on 5 Components of Physical Fitness; cardiovascular endurance, muscular endurance, muscular strength, flexibility and body composition.  Check it out on flickr!

On behalf of the staff we would like to thank Annie Luxmore, personal trainer and nutritionist, Ashley Miles from Rex Wellness Center in Raleigh.
