Helping North Carolina Teachers Educate the Whole Child

Be Active North Carolina envisions a future where physical activity and lesson plans work together and today's students become tomorrow's standard of healthy living. Be Active Youth provides evidence-based programming to K-8 students in the classroom, physical education and the community. Its research and pilot studies have launched many of Be Active North Carolina's signature programs including Be Actives Steps Youth.

Under a grant from the Health and Wellness Trust Fund of North Carolina and in partnership with the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction, Be Active Youth has developed a state-wide, train-the-trainer model that has reached over 38,000 teachers in 800 schools through its Healthy Active Children Policy trainings. The program has impacted nearly a million children across the state.

Outside the classroom, Be Active Youth is an
advocate for change and works within the physical activity community to bring about positive policy change that will equip schools with the resources needed to combat childhood obesity.
