Matt Mahar received a Bachelor of Science in Education from SUNY at Cortland, he then continued his education at the University of Houston with a Master of Education and a Doctorate of Education. Currently, he is an Associate Professor at East Carolina University, as well as the Director for the Activity Promotion Laboratory. Matt has contributed to a number of scholarly publications and presentations, including approximately 42 published articles, 77 published abstracts, and 132 presentations at scholarly meetings. He has also been involved in obtaining 45 grants, totaling nearly $1,000,000. Because of Mahar’s efforts he has been awarded seven awards, including Board of Governors Award for Excellence in Teaching, Measurement and Evaluation Council Honor Award, and Project Inspiration Award from the National Association for Sport and Physical Education. Mahar has also given his time to various organizations including the American College of Sports Medicine, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, North Carolina Task Force for Healthy Weight in Children in addition to Be Active North Carolina.
