OVERVIEW
The Program Manager is responsible for implementing youth programming designed to address the needs of the population, for and in keeping with the mission of the organization. The position requires the Program Manager to be a health promotions expert for the North Carolina school-aged population. The Program Manager will coordinate the negotiations of contracts and grants, train site staff, implement programs and conduct evaluations per grantor or sponsor requirements. The Program Manager will help identify the media and communications needs of one or more programs and develop the appropriate volunteer network to support programmatic requirements. This position is the principle contact for all key stakeholders of the program, especially the grantor or sponsor, and is accountable for the development and execution of the strategic plan to support the program and its components.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Coordinates, with guidance from the Director of Programs, the on-going strategic analysis and vision to ensure the cost-effective utilization of resources designed to improve the health of youth in North Carolina.
- Coordinates all aspects of the assigned program or programs, including but not limited to, communication with participants, collecting, analyzing and reporting evaluation data, training, technical support, etc.
- Manages the program and its components, with guidance from the Director of Programs, according to grant guidelines and sponsor expectations. Ensures the largest return on the funds disbursed. Analyzes product offerings and revenue margins when requested.
- Leads one or more staff members, helping them to successfully achieve programmatic goals, while abiding by relevant human resource laws and Be Active North Carolina, Inc.’s personnel policies.
- Assists with budget preparation, with guidance from the Director of Programs, and is accountable for the successful tracking, completion, and reporting of financial and budget matters.
- Plans, designs and coordinates any required program trainings. Facilitates all logistics for trainings including site, food and beverage, transportation, etc.
- Recruits, trains, guides and motivates participants, volunteers and key stakeholders to implement the programs. Coordinates the negotiation of any contracts with physical activity providers, including on-going oversight, audit and site visits.
- Facilitates programming content modification as needed.
- Coordinates media and public relations for program. Works with media consultant, communication manager and others to generate press coverage to build awareness of and support for the programs and their sponsors.
- Presents at conferences and other appropriate venues.
- Manages program materials inventory and coordinates with the Administrative Manager to ensure appropriate quantities.
- Represents Be Active North Carolina, Inc. on appropriate committees.
- Coordinates with relevant organizations to effectively implement the program.
- Prepares information for Web sites and coordinates with Web site coordinator.
- Exercises, as a subject matter expert, a solid understanding of the population served as well as the programs designed to serve them. Identifies strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats and challenges to strategic success.
HIRING REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education, Exercise Science, Health Promotions, or other health-related field and 3 to 5 years of relevant work experience in program development and implementation. Master’s degree preferred. An individual with the equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the same level of knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered. Experience with the North Carolina school system is a must. Spanish language skills are highly desirable. A history of successful strategic program management experience is desired. Applicant must work efficiently and effectively in a fast-paced environment with the ability to manage competing priorities. The incumbent will require skills and practical experience in negotiating financial terms and sensitive customer satisfaction issues. Demonstrated program planning, project administration and evaluation experience are essential, as well as interpersonal communication, evaluation and problem-solving skills. To be successful in this position, it is essential to have the ability to positively represent the organization and its mission with various stakeholders. The manager must have role and schedule flexibility, creativity, be a self-starter and team-oriented. Strong verbal and written communication skills are required. The ability to successfully interact with individuals at all levels is essential. Grant-writing experience and ability are desirable.
SALARY & BENEFITS
The salary range established for this position is $35,000 to $40,000 commensurate with experience. In addition, Be Active North Carolina, Inc. provides a very generous benefits package, including employer paid health and dental insurance, matching contributions to a retirement savings plan, and paid time off. The work setting is professional, but with an informal and pleasant work environment.
