POSITION OVERVIEW
Be Active Kids is an innovative, interactive physical activity, nutrition, and food safety curriculum for North Carolina preschoolers ages four and five (www.beactivekids.org). The goal of the program is to give young children the tools they need to develop positive physical activity and nutrition habits for a lifetime of good health. Be Active Kids is implemented in child care centers, family child care homes, before and after school programs, and public school pre-K and kindergarten classrooms. Be Active Kids is a signature program of the Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina Foundation and is administered by Be Active North Carolina. The food safety portion of the curriculum is funded through Food Lion. The Be Active Kids Program Specialist will work in conjunction with the Be Active Kids Senior Program Manager to implement the program in all 100 counties in NC. Major responsibilities include recruiting, training, retaining and corresponding with volunteer trainers, coordinating the ordering and fulfillment of curriculum kits, maintaining accurate databases, assisting with printing curriculum materials, writing parent newsletters, conducting evaluations, presenting and exhibiting at statewide conferences, assisting with media coverage, and adhering to grant budgets and guidelines.
RESPONSBILITIES
The Be Active Kids Program Specialist reports to the Be Active Kids Senior Program Manager.
In carrying out the basic function of this position, the Be Active Kids Program Specialist:
- Executes the train the trainer system process, including:
- Recruits trainers to ensure representation from all 100 counties. Ensures the availability of adequate numbers of trainers to meet the need for statewide provider trainings.
- Plans, coordinates, and leads train the trainer workshops. Facilitates all logistics including registering trainers, site selection, food and beverage, A/V, evaluation, etc.
- Corresponds with trainers to schedule local provider training sessions.
- Coordinates kit fulfillment for on-time delivery and accurate accounting and inventory.
- Fulfills the trainer appreciation program components to maximize retention.
- Enters data and maintains trainer and provider databases so information is accurate and up-to-date.
- Coordinates day-to-day tasks for printing curriculum materials, training materials, and supporting documents. Corresponds with Be Active Kids Senior Program Manager, graphic designer and funders for edits.
- Schedules logistics for the Be Active Kids Advisory Committee meetings (12-15 person committee). Assists Be Active Kids Senior Program Manager in communications with Advisory Committee.
- Work with Be Active Kids Senior Program Manager to implement updates and content changes to the Be Active Kids Web site.
- Writes quarterly parent newsletters, contracts with appropriate vendors to translate to Spanish, and upload newsletters to site.
- Assists Be Active Kids Senior Program Manager in implementing continual program evaluation measures.
- Presents and/or exhibits at statewide conferences and other appropriate venues.
- Assists Be Active Kids Senior Program Manager in preparation of press coverage documents and state and national award applications.
- Serves on appropriate committees to represent Be Active North Carolina, Inc. and Be Active Kids in coordination with the Be Active Kids Senior Program Manager.
- Manages and coordinates inventory in conjunction with the Administrative Manager and Be Active Kids Senior Program Manager.
- Adheres to budget and funding guidelines. Assists Be Active Kids Senior Program Manager in writing monthly reports on progress to funders.
- Performs other necessary duties as assigned by the Be Active Kids Senior Program Manager.
HIRING REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor’s degree in Health Education, Public Health, Parks and Recreation, Early Childhood Development, Physical Education, or Nutrition and 3-5 years experience in coordinating programs and training groups of people OR an individual with the equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the same level of knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered. Demonstrated program planning and coordination, project administration and evaluation, and database management are essential. Commitment to excellent customer service as well as the ability to independently manage tasks and meet deadlines is essential. Must have proven ability to accurately multi-task. An ideal candidate will be detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills, written and verbal communication skills, and problem-solving skills. To be successful in this position, it is essential to have the ability to communicate effectively with various audiences at all levels. Must be flexible, creative, self-starting and team oriented.
SALARY
Salary range: $30,000 - $40,000
