Prescribing Physical Activity

What if there was one thing that a doctor could prescribe to their patients that would reduce the risk for chronic diseases, improve sleep, enhance mood, lower blood pressure and increase energy? Wouldn’t a doctor prescribe this to everyone?

That’s why Be Active supports physicians across the state in their efforts to prescribe physical activity and help North Carolinians improve health and better their lives.

Be Active recommends the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) Exercise is Medicine Program, which aims to improve the health and well-being of our nation through regular physical activity prescription from doctors and other health care providers.

If you are a North Carolina physician interested in promoting physical activity at your office, contact Be Active for more assistance. Our staff can help you design a program and locate tools and resources that will:

  • Help patients connect to physical activity opportunities in their area.
  • Provide physical activity guidelines and sample activity plans for any fitness level, as well as individuals with illnesses or chronic conditions.
  • Create a healthy environment for employees and patients at your office.
  • Train staff in how to assist patients in improving fitness.
