Richard Rairigh
Director of Programs and Early Childhood Development
Richard is a graduate of West Virginia University, with a B.S. and M.S. in Physical Education Teacher Education. Richard continued his graduate education at the University of South Carolina in Physical Education Teacher Education with a cognate in motor learning and development.
His research interests include Sport Education, PASE and assessment in physical education and physical activity. After pursuing teaching interests at Meredith College he joined Be Active North Carolina in August 2007 and serves as the Be Active Kids Senior Program Manager. Rich serves as co-chair of the Children and Nature Coalition and is a member of the leadership committee for the Outdoor Learning Environments Alliance and Active Play Alliance.
Favorite ways to be active: Playing with my kids is my favorite form of physical activity but it is not always at the intensity level that I would like. I also enjoy yard work, working out at the gym and being involved in outdoor activities (hiking, canoeing, etc).
Fitness goals: To increase moderate to vigorous physical activity to 60 minutes per day, 7 days a week
Favorite walking or jogging trail: Blue Ridge Parkway
